    Triple R Sunday October 2, 2011.

    Review, Reflect, Respond

After service discussion on Dr Macnab’s address: Our most fundamental appetite. The pursuit of pleasure.
How it can enhance our lives.

    Review:
    • Competing pleasures around us.
    -Some drive us.
    -Pleasures that enhance us.
    • Bringing pleasure to others lives, is the investment worth it?
    • Notice how some people choose to be unhappy.
    • The place of pleasure in life.
    • Feelings of guilt in seeking pleasure.
    • The attitude: Is it right we should have this pleasure.

    Reflect:
    • The Old Faith gave a confused message about pleasure, often leaving its hearers with feelings of guilt when seeking pleasure.
    • The New Faith teaches pleasures that enhance us add beauty to our lives and make us healthier.
    • Parable of the sower teaches awareness of best human possibilities.
-The life that flourishes understands how the important element of pleasure enhances life.
    - Whereas the seed that falls in rocky ground shrivels and dies.

    * The healthy pursuit of pleasure is part of growth.
    * Childhood pleasures seem distant but can be rediscovered in older years.

    Respond:
    • Understand and shed the feeling of guilt that hinders the pursuit of pleasures that enhances life.
    • The new faith encourages proactive conversation about the important human element of pleasure – If seed falls in the right place it grows.
    • The new faith brings energy, to seek out the pleasures that enhance us during the pain that life sometimes brings.
    • The new faith encourages the pursuit of pleasures that enhance life; so important in the communities we live and work in.
