Point Nepean National Park
Celebrate the rich history of Point Nepean
23 November 2010
The history of Point Nepean spans back thousands of years to the Boonwurrung people. In the past the park has been used to quarantine people arriving in Victoria, defence forts and for military training. It is a place that protects the unique plants and animals.
It now welcomes the community, giving them the opportunity to explore the historic quarantine and Fort Nepean's tunnels and gun emplacements. Visit the memorial at Cheviot Beach where Harold Holt disappeared in 1967. We will tour the park by a Transporter Service making 5 stops along the way, and have morning tea. We will then walk the coastal tracks through Moonah Woodland and enjoy the beautiful ocean views. At 1,30pm, we will leave Point Nepean to have lunch at the historic Hotel Sorrento. For those needing transport, there will be a bus available, or we will arrange transport with those travelling by car. There will be a small charge to cover petrol costs.
Time: 9.30am at St Michael's for bus travellers. Those travelling by car to arrive at Point Nepean National Park by 11.15am.
Venue: Point Nepean National Park, end of Port Nepean Road, Portsea (Mel Ref 156 C2)
Cost: $34 adults, $30 pensioners
