National White Wreath Day - Gathering & Service

COMMUNITY GATHERING & MEMORIAL SERVICE
HOSTED BY THE WHITE WREATH ASSOCIATION (MELBOURNE BRANCH)
This unique gathering of healing and connection is free of charge and open to anyone who has lost someone they love or care about to suicide, as well as community members who would like to come along, say hello and offer their support.
From 1pm on Sunday 29th May, 2011 (National White Wreath Day), on the steps of Parliament House, Spring Street, Melbourne you will be warmly welcomed by friends and fellow survivors of suicide who understand the pain and isolation that this kind of grief brings.
After the formal proceedings, which commence at 1.30pm (the memorial service), attendees will be invited to acknowledge their loved one by contributing to our ‘Memory and Support Display'. This might include bringing along a photo to share, a poem, flowers, a quote, or anything else that has meaning or significance for you. A number of White Wreaths will be displayed on the steps of parliament to which you will be invited to add your special memento. An art table will be set up for you to write or personalise your messages before adding them to the display. Clips will also be available to secure your photos, messages etc. to the supplied wreaths.
Highlights will include music, guest speakers, words of hope, comfort and healing, a prayer and a ‘letting go' bubble blowing ceremony at the conclusion of the service. Fundraising merchandise will be available for sale and you will also have the opportunity to make donations should you wish to do so. White Wreath staff and volunteers will be available for support and information throughout the program. Our hope is that those who attend will leave with the belief that love never dies and through this sense of compassion will walk away with a renewed sense that life can and will go on.
