Interfaith Event with Sherene Hassan

On the 17th of July, secretary of, and media spokesperson for, the Islamic Council of Victoria, Sherene Hassan, will be giving a talk in the Waratah Room after church.
The Islamic Council of Victoria is the main body for Muslim organisations in Victoria and represents more than 90,000 Muslims. Their vision is to enhance the community for all Australians through the empowerment of Muslims in Victoria. In order to fulfil this vision they aim to represent Muslims through consultation and cooperation with governments, other communities, the media and the general public. Not only this, but the goal is also to promote an accurate, informed and positive understanding of Islam and Muslims.
Sherene was elected chairperson of the Jewish Christian Muslim
Association Conference Committee, was listed by the Age newspaper as one of Melbourne’s top 100 most influential people and most recently was appointed by former Premier John Brumby to serve on the Australia Day committee. She has conducted over 500 information sessions on Islam and has spoken to diverse audiences including the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School and the Australian Federal Police.
On Sunday 17th July, Sherene will speak on ‘Reclaiming Islam - The Vision of Today's Progressive Muslims and the Challenge that Lies Ahead.’
