Leigh Harrold (Piano)
Leigh enjoys a reputation as a "musician of rare talent and intelligence". He has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America and Australia as soloist and chamber musician, including concerts at Australia House in London, the Royal Academy of Music, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and concerto engagements with the Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and the ANAM Chamber Orchestra. He has recently returned from an extensive tour of the United States and Canada where he gave lectures on and performed the solo piano music of Robert Muczynski. In June 2002, Leigh traveled to the Orkney Islands to perform a concert of Peter Maxwell Davies' works in the presence of the composer.
While studying for a Ph.D. in piano performance and working at the Australian National Academy of Music, Leigh finds time to go on long walks, read voraciously, and write musical articles and programme notes. He holds two University medals - one for Music and one for Applied Science.
Each year, St Michael’s Uniting Church presents two individuals with ‘The St Michael’s Medallions’ in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the community.
The award is designed to recognize individuals whose work assists in the prevention of violence, trauma and destructiveness or alternatively, promotes growth, health and well-being.
The Medallions are designed to be an encouraging voice in the community, affirming individuals whose outstanding work might remain unrecognized.
