SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER:
Patricia Garcia, International Programs Director, act for peace
TOPIC: Perspectives from the field - Insight and Inspiration
Patricia will share with us her extraordinary field experiences working with women and their communities world over including Darfur, Sudan, Iran, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Thailand Burma border camps. A strong advocate for the rights, protection and empowerment of women and children amidst war and conflict, Patricia was involved in providing submissions to the UN Human Rights Commission that led to the rape of women in wartime being recognised as a war crime. Patricia has a wealth of experience working in aid and development with Australian and international NGOs, the UN and government agencies, and is currently the International Programs Director of act for peace, the international humanitarian and development agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia.
