Enjoy the delight of a unique experience with a visit to the Victorian Tapestry Workshop. Here we will learn about the tradition of tapestry, meet the weavers and view the making of a tapestry, the art of material and dyes, and the story behind the history of the workshop. The Victorian Tapestry workshop located in historic Emerald Hill area in South Melbourne is regarded as a world centre for tapestry, one of western civilizations oldest and richest art forms.
We will meet at Chimmeys Café opposite the workshop for coffee and a snack before our tour of the workshop.
Following the tour we will board a tram to the city to view some of the many beautiful tapestries commissioned by various corporate bodies, hotels, banks, galleries, etc, around Melbourne. This tour will finish with the viewing of a magnificent tapestry at the Sofitel Hotel where we will lunch and relax together. Tram tour is limited to 20 however more can be accommodated at the workshop, so if you wish to do both, book early.
Time: 10:15 am at Café, 11:00am tour
Cost: $25 which includes a donation to human rights.
Travel: Tram no 1 from Swanston Walk, alight at stop 24 or tram no 12 from Collins St, alight at stop 129.
